Maria DeFabo Akin
Maria DeFabo Akin serves as the Production Design Director at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Stepping into the role in 2022, she oversees the Props, Scenic Art, Costumes, and Wigs & Makeup departments, seamlessly bridging the gap between artistic vision and technical execution for grand-scale opera. Maria originally joined Lyric in 2013, previously serving as the Properties Coordinator and the Properties and Scenic Art Director. Outside of Lyric, she thinks fondly of her artistic roots and time spent at Steep Theatre. Maria is married to ensemble member Brad DeFabo Akin, with whom she has two wonderful, very busy children.
