Steep Scores Big with Jeff Nominations!
The Joseph Jefferson Awards organization announced the nominees this week for the 2009 Jeff Awards which honor excellence in Chicago Theater. Steep Theatre Company received a remarkable 5 nominations and was one of the most nominated theater companies in this years awards. Steep was nominated for Best Production(In Arabia We'd All Be Kings), Best Director(Joanie Schultz, In Arabia We'd All Be Kings), Best Ensemble(In Arabia We'd All Be Kings), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, Rinska Prestinary) and Best Actresss in a Supporting Role (Greensboro, Lily Mojekwu).
This is the second year in a row that a Steep production was nominated for Best Production. In Arabia was Steep's best attended show, best selling show in the company's history and was praised by critics across the board. The slew of nominations caps off what was a wonderful experience for the company and is an auspicious beginning to life in their new home.
The 2009 Jeff Awards recognize shows that opened between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009. Steep's current Jeff nominated hit, Parlour Song, will be eligible fofr the 2010 awards.
The 36th Anniversary Non-Equity Jeff Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage, Chicago, IL.
